Never Quit

My papa was a very cool old man. He fought in WWII and he fought cancer for at least 2 years!!! I am fixing to tell you a story he has told me about his being in the war.

This is a story of when he was in Pearl Harbor. When the Japanese came and bombed Pearl Harbor he was in boat preparing to go out later that day.  He was way down at the bottom of the ship working on something when bam! it hit his ship.  Everyone went up to the top of the boat and Papa said that the captain was being really rude and left the boat first. Finally my Papa was able to get out off the boat and onto another rescue boat with a few other people.

When my Papa got diagnosed with cancer my Great-Aunt and Uncle had been over at his house and he had been slurring his words really bad and so they decided it would probably be better if they went ahead and took him to the hospital just in case something was wrong.  When the took him to the hospital they gave him a CAT scan and learned that he had lung and brain cancer.  The lung cancer was the size of golf balls and the brain cancer was spreading quickly and they only gave him a few more weeks maybe a month to live.
The things he said to me are still permanently edged into my brain. He always told us to never quit what we love.  Many things I will never quit because of him.  I will never forget the text from my mom saying he’s gone.  I will never quit basketball or Camp Deer Run because those are a few things he loved.
